Helsinki – Kemijoki Oy has become a member of the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Hydropower Implementing Agreement (IEA Hydro) as the Finnish participant. This program fosters international cooperation and research aimed at advancing hydropower technology.

The IEA Hydro initiative brings together working groups composed of representatives from countries, international organizations, and companies, each focusing on specific aspects of hydropower. These groups, known as Annexes, conduct research projects typically lasting up to five years.

Kemijoki Oy's participation in IEA Hydro supports the company's commitment to sustainable development and technological progress in the hydropower sector. The program aims to establish hydropower as a recognized and socially desirable energy technology, encouraging the development of new facilities and the modernization of existing ones.

IEA Hydro actively recruits members from both OECD and non-OECD countries, including governmental agencies, international organizations, and corporations. Participation requires joining at least one of IEA Hydro's Annex projects. Several Annex projects are currently active, covering areas such as small-scale hydropower, the renewal and upgrading of power plants, and the relationship between hydropower and the environment.
