Kering Celebrates New Year with Chinese Artist Jiang Miao

Luxury group Kering has commissioned contemporary Chinese artist Jiang Miao to create a special art project to mark the upcoming New Year in January 2025. The collaboration aims to blend Eastern philosophical wisdom with contemporary art practices, exploring multicultural themes.

Miao is recognized in China for her distinctive artistic style, which involves a unique knife-carving technique applied to acrylic paintings. Her works are built upon more than 20 layers of paint, which she then carves through to reveal stereoscopic, layered compositions. The artist describes color as energy, and her abstract works as experiments in color and time.

One of Miao's representative series, "Taoist Trinity and the Self," depicts a chaotic yet dynamic space where spiral cores organize dots, lines, and surfaces. This reflects the concept of Taiji, which generates all things, and the cycle of life, aligning with the New Year's theme of renewal and new beginnings.

The collaboration is part of Kering's ongoing commitment to empowering women and supporting female artists, a program initiated in 2020. Previous Kering New Year art projects have featured artists such as Wen Qiwen, Xu Jing, Peng Wei, and Chen Ke. Miao's artwork was distributed digitally via Kering's WeChat account, including videos, e-cards, and phone wallpapers, to share auspicious wishes for the year ahead.
