Kirsi Hakaniemi, Digital Business Director at Keskisuomalainen, stated that AI is intended to primarily enhance the efficiency of daily editorial work and bolster local journalism. This development will adhere to journalistic principles and quality standards, with AI tools serving to complement, rather than replace, human journalists.
The group participated in the AI 1000 program by Digia and AI Finland to foster a shared understanding and establish a framework for AI development. This initiative has helped Keskisuomalainen define a clear AI strategy guiding controlled and secure advancements. AI solutions are already in use within the company's Microsoft environment and business systems.
Hakaniemi acknowledges that AI presents both opportunities and risks for the media sector, particularly concerning business models if audiences shift to AI-generated summaries.
