Helsinki – Retailer Kesko has been selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World), a globally recognized measure of corporate sustainability. The assessment evaluated criteria such as supply chain transparency, sustainable product selection, and personnel responsibility, with new factors like biodiversity and food waste reduction also considered.

The DJSI World includes the top 10% of companies in each industry globally based on their sustainability performance. Kesko was recognized alongside a select group of European grocery retailers and leading companies from Asia. The independent assessment was conducted by S&P Global.

Kesko achieved high scores in key areas including climate targets, eco-efficiency, emissions management, packaging commitments, human rights assessments, and adherence to codes of conduct. These results reflect the company's strategic focus on sustainability and climate action.

"The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are a key tool for investors to assess the ESG level of corporations," stated Riikka Joukio, Kesko's EVP of Sustainability and Public Affairs. Kesko aims for carbon neutrality by 2025 and zero emissions from its own operations and transport by 2030, encouraging suppliers and customers to reduce their emissions as well.

Other Finnish companies included in the DJSI World in 2021 were Neste, UPM-Kymmene, Valmet, and Wärtsilä. The European grocery sector was represented by Ahold Delhaize, Carrefour, and Metro, while Asian companies included President Chain Store and CP All Public Company.
