Kesko Targets Emissions from Logistics and Energy Use

Kesko Oyj, the Finnish retail conglomerate, is implementing measures to reduce emissions stemming from its direct operations, with a particular focus on logistics and energy use within its properties.

The company identifies its logistics operations and the consumption of district heating as the primary sources of its direct emissions. In response, Kesko is enhancing energy efficiency, upgrading its heating systems, and integrating electric vehicles into its transport fleet.

Emissions associated with the production, use, and end-of-life treatment of products represent a significant portion of Kesko's overall environmental impact. To address this, the company is actively engaging its suppliers, challenging them to set and achieve their own emission reduction targets.

Kesko has secured validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term and long-term emission reduction goals, aiming for significant cuts by 2034 and 2050, respectively. Furthermore, as part of a new energy efficiency agreement for the retail sector, Kesko has committed to a 16% improvement in energy efficiency by 2035.
