Kesko's May Sales Increased 12 Percent

Kesko Group's total sales in May 2011 rose by 12 percent year-on-year to EUR 860.4 million. The increase was driven by strong performance in the building and home improvement and car trade segments.

Kesko's May Sales Increased 12 Percent

Finnish retailer Kesko Oyj reported that its total sales for May 2011 increased by 12 percent compared to the previous year, reaching EUR 860.4 million (excluding VAT). The growth was broad-based, with notable contributions from the building and home improvement trade and the car trade.

The food trade sector saw sales increase by 8.5 percent to EUR 353.9 million. Sales to K-food store chains grew by 9.8 percent, while sales of the Pirkka product line saw a significant jump of 49.6 percent.

In the building and home improvement segment, sales grew by 16.3 percent to EUR 284.4 million. The car and machinery trade also experienced a significant boost.

For the period of January to May 2011, Kesko's total sales amounted to EUR 3,803.2 million, marking an 8.7 percent increase over the same period in the prior year. Reporting adjustments were made to reflect harmonized sales reporting for foreign operations and currency fluctuations.
