Keurig Launches New Coffee Machine Using Plastic-Free Compressed Pucks

Keurig has launched its new single-serve coffee machine, the Keurig Alta, which offers the brand's signature convenience but without the use of plastic and aluminum pods. The machine utilizes compressed coffee pucks, dubbed AltaRounds, that are designed to be 100% compostable.

First showcased two years ago, the AltaRounds feature pressed coffee grounds encased in a plant-based coating derived from seaweed. Keurig aims to eliminate the environmental concerns associated with disposable coffee pods.

The Keurig Alta machine is available for preorder at $499.99, with shipments expected to begin soon. The company is also reportedly working to replace the current plastic wrappers for the pucks with paper alternatives to maintain freshness.

This product development signals a shift in the single-serve coffee market towards more sustainable options, responding to growing consumer demand for eco-friendly appliances.
