Kevin Roose departs New York Times to launch independent venture Machine Gods
Former New York Times journalist Kevin Roose has transitioned to independent content production, debuting a new podcast and book centered on the artificial intelligence industry.
Journalist and author Kevin Roose has left his long-term position at The New York Times to pursue independent media production. Alongside Casey Newton, Roose has launched Machine Gods, a new podcast dedicated to analyzing the rapidly evolving technology sector.
The launch coincides with the publication of Roose’s book, The AGI Chronicles. The text provides a detailed examination of the firms currently racing to develop artificial general intelligence, documenting the cultural and operational shifts occurring within these labs as their technology transitions into commercial products.
Roose's move highlights a broader shift among industry journalists toward independent platforms. According to Roose, the new venture will prioritize video-first production as part of an effort to create a sustainable journalistic model within the modern digital media landscape.
