KfW Acquires Minority Stake in CureVac AG for German Federal Government
KfW has acquired shares in the German biopharmaceutical company CureVac AG for approximately EUR 300 million on behalf of the Federal Government. The investment targets the company's mRNA technology.

KfW, acting on behalf of the German Federal Government, has acquired a minority interest in CureVac AG for approximately EUR 300 million. CureVac is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the research and development of mRNA-based medicines.
The Tübingen-based company, employing around 450 individuals, is actively developing an mRNA-based vaccine against COVID-19, alongside treatments for other viral infections such as rabies. CureVac is also exploring mRNA technology for potential cancer therapies.
This transaction is classified as a "mandated transaction," meaning the Federal Government bears all associated opportunities and risks. KfW's role is that of an executing agent, without assuming entrepreneurial or strategic responsibility for CureVac's operations.
Shareholder rights concerning the acquired stake will be exercised according to the instructions of the German Federal Government, highlighting its direct involvement in supporting key domestic biotechnology firms.
