KfW and Berlin Launch Fully Digital Business Registration Process
KfW and the state of Berlin have introduced a new, fully digital process for founding companies. Entrepreneurs in Berlin can now register their businesses and file tax notifications through a single mobile application.
KfW, the German development bank, and the state of Berlin have jointly launched a new system designed to streamline the process of starting a company. This initiative allows entrepreneurs in Berlin to complete both their business registration and tax notifications via KfW's Gründerplattform app.
The process begins with founders answering an interactive questionnaire within the app about their business venture. Their responses automatically generate the necessary forms for business registration and tax filing. The app then transmits this data electronically to Berlin's relevant authorities and tax offices. Payment of applicable fees can also be made directly within the app using Berlin's e-payment system.
Melanie Kehr, a member of KfW's executive board responsible for domestic promotion, highlighted the significance of the new system. "Company foundations are a key engine of our competitiveness. Through the fully digital founding process in Berlin, we are increasing the attractiveness of Germany as a business location for creative entrepreneurs, while simultaneously promoting innovation and growth," Kehr stated.
Berlin is the first German state to implement this fully digital process in regular operations, aiming for a nationally uniform digital incorporation that can be completed within 24 hours. The new system significantly simplifies and accelerates the founding procedure, removing the need for separate applications to multiple authorities.
Franziska Giffey, Berlin's Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises, described the launch as a critical step forward for Berlin-based entrepreneurs. "In collaboration with KfW, we are making our city a pioneer nationwide and demonstrating how consistent digitalization of administration can reduce bureaucracy and strengthen the economy," Giffey added.
