KfW Completes Digitalization of Heating Subsidy Process for Municipal Customers

Frankfurt – The German development bank KfW announced today, June 26, 2025, that it has implemented the final step in its digitalization plan for heating subsidies. Municipalities that have received a grant commitment from KfW for the purchase and installation of climate-friendly heating systems can now submit the required proof of completion for examination and payout digitally.

The online customer portal, accessible via 'Meine KfW', now offers a fully digital and largely automated process for applications, commitments, evidence submission, and review for all customer groups: private, commercial, and municipal.

Funds committed by KfW are reserved for the customer upon commitment. Customers have 36 months from the commitment date to implement the measures. To receive payout after completion, proof must be submitted digitally within six months of the final invoice date.

In 2024, KfW committed nearly 227,000 heating subsidy applications totaling €3.3 billion. In the first quarter of 2025, approximately 88,000 additional commitments worth €1.2 billion were made. Around 80 percent of all 2025 commitments were for heat pumps. Since the evidence submission process began in late September 2024, approximately 120,000 claims had been processed for payout by March 31, 2025.
