KfW Increases 2026 Funding Target to EUR 80-85 Billion

KfW, Germany's state-owned development bank, has increased its funding target for 2026 to EUR 80-85 billion, an upward revision from its previous target of EUR 75-80 billion. The adjustment reflects the strong performance of its domestic promotional business since the beginning of the year and anticipates continued positive trends.

During the first half of 2026, KfW successfully raised EUR 58 billion in the international capital markets, navigating a volatile environment. The bank also prioritized strategic initiatives, participating in multiple pilot transactions to test digital capital market infrastructures and processes.

Tim Armbruster, Treasurer at KfW Group, stated that the higher funding target underscores the success of its promotional activities and its capacity to meet increased needs from a position of strength. He highlighted KfW's consistent ability to place large volumes reliably, even amid market uncertainty, due to its broad international investor base and liquid bonds.

For the second half of the year, KfW plans further issuances totaling approximately EUR 22-27 billion, with the euro and US dollar remaining central. The bank will continue its focus on green bond issuances and the practical testing of digital capital market infrastructure.
