KfW IPEX-Bank Finances Two Next-Generation Bulk Carriers

Frankfurt – KfW IPEX-Bank is providing EUR 79.3 million in financing for the construction of two next-generation self-unloading bulk carriers. The vessels are designed to transport construction materials across Europe and international export markets.

The vessels will be owned by a joint venture between Hartmann Schiffsbeteiligungen GmbH & Co. KG and The CSL Group Inc. They will operate under a long-term charter agreement with Mibau Stema Shipping ApS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mibau Stema Group GmbH.

Each vessel will have a maximum cargo capacity of 44,000 tonnes. They will be equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on conventional fuels while being prepared for biofuels and green methanol as lower-carbon fuel options become more available. The vessels' design achieves an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) performance 3.5% better than the reference line for comparable vessels, exceeding current efficiency requirements.

The financing supports more efficient maritime logistics for the building materials sector and aims to bring new vessel technologies into regular commercial operation. Aida Welker, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, stated that the financing enables the transition toward more efficient maritime transport for building materials logistics.
