KfW reports 50,000 housing units funded by Efficiency House 55 program
KfW, Germany's development bank, announced that its Efficiency House 55 promotion has funded 50,000 new housing units. The program, relaunched in late 2025, aims to reduce construction backlogs and promote climate-friendly building.
KfW, the German development bank, has reported that its Efficiency House 55 promotion has supported the construction of 50,000 new housing units. The program was reintroduced for a limited period in December 2025, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction.
The initiative is designed to help reduce the existing construction backlog in Germany and encourage the development of new, energy-efficient residential buildings. KfW stated that the promotion has successfully boosted construction investments and accelerated the completion of ready-to-build projects.
Eligible projects must meet the Efficiency House 55 standard, with 100% of heating generated from renewable energy sources. KfW offers loans with federally subsidized interest rates to private and commercial developers, while municipalities can receive grants.
The promotion will continue until the allocated federal funds for interest rate reductions are exhausted, which KfW anticipates will be by the end of the current year. The program aims to lower long-term ancillary housing costs for residents and contribute to climate protection goals.
