Kia expands electric SUV presence in Indonesia with EV9 launch

Kia is strengthening its position in the Indonesian automotive market with the launch of the EV9, a flagship electric SUV. The vehicle utilizes a dedicated electric platform, which lowers the center of gravity by housing the battery pack within the floor. This design choice is intended to improve handling and reduce body roll, addressing traditional aerodynamic weaknesses in the SUV segment.

The EV9 GT-Line variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system capable of delivering 385 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. With a 99.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, the vehicle reaches a range of up to 497 kilometers under the WLTP cycle. The architecture supports ultra-fast charging, with the company stating that an 80 percent charge can be achieved in approximately 24 minutes.

Inside the cabin, the absence of a transmission tunnel allows for a flat floor, providing increased interior space. The vehicle includes luxury-focused features such as pilot seats with massage functions and a meridian sound system, as well as utility-focused technology like the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, which allows the car to serve as an external power source.

This launch reflects broader industry trends where consumers are increasingly prioritizing energy efficiency alongside utility. By transitioning to an electric powertrain, Kia aims to remove the vibration and noise traditionally associated with combustion-engine SUVs while maintaining the power output required for diverse road conditions.
