Kiel is implementing a new parking strategy where spots are available for commercial customers during the day and for residents in the evenings and at night. The aim is to make it easier for drivers to find parking and reduce traffic congestion within the city.
The city is progressively identifying locations that can be made available for shared use outside of business hours. Several schools, including Ricarda-Huch-Schule and RBZ Wirtschaft, are already participating in the initiative.
The Ikea parking garage has joined the scheme, offering overnight parking for two euros per night, bookable via the Kiel parking app, Peuka. The city anticipates more businesses will join, expanding the availability of these shared parking resources.
This multi-use parking approach is expected to alleviate traffic and improve overall parking efficiency within Kiel, benefiting both businesses and local residents.
