Kinepolis Acquires Showcase Cinemas in US Expansion
European cinema operator Kinepolis Group has completed the acquisition of 13 Showcase Cinemas locations in the United States. The deal expands Kinepolis' U.S. footprint.
Kinepolis Group, an international cinema operator headquartered in Europe, has finalized its acquisition of 13 Showcase Cinemas locations in the United States. The transaction, which closed on September 11, adds seven cinemas in Massachusetts, five in New York, one in Rhode Island, and one in Ohio to Kinepolis' portfolio.
The company will continue to operate the acquired theaters under the Showcase Cinemas brand, stating a focus on continuity for guests and employees while investing in the moviegoing experience. Kinepolis aims to enhance the customer experience and explore further growth opportunities through this expansion.
Following the acquisition, Kinepolis Group operates a total of 134 cinemas with 1,474 screens and approximately 230,000 seats across nine countries. Its U.S. presence now includes Showcase Cinemas, MJR Theatres, and Emagine Entertainment.
Kinepolis has previously expanded its North American presence through acquisitions such as Landmark Cinemas in Canada and Emagine Entertainment in the United States. The company emphasizes investment in cinema experience, including advancements in seating, digital projection, and large-format screens.
