Kingdom Come Developer Hopes GTA 6 Will Drive Up Game Prices
Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima hopes that the release of GTA 6 will encourage the games industry to increase prices. Development costs are rising while the player base for new games remains stagnant.
Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, the developer behind "Kingdom Come: Deliverance," has expressed a desire for "Grand Theft Auto VI" (GTA 6) to serve as a catalyst for raising prices within the gaming industry. Klima highlighted the increasing costs of game development and the challenges posed by stagnant pricing.
Klima noted that the games industry faces several difficult issues. Development costs have climbed significantly in recent years, while the stable player base purchasing new games has largely stopped growing. The prevalence of digital distribution has also diminished the role of physical retail.
"The last resort is to raise the price per game," Klima stated. "It would help a lot, but everyone is terrified of it. We hope GTA 6 can lead the way, so we can also raise prices." He believes that only major players like Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two have the scale and courage to initiate a significant price hike.
Despite his hope for Rockstar Games' success with GTA 6, Klima himself shows limited personal interest in the game. He admitted he does not understand its popularity but still appreciates the technical marvels that such game productions represent.
