Kitzbühel Farmhouse Museum Presents Local History

The Kitzbühel Farmhouse Museum, located on Römerweg, showcases the area's history and rural way of life. The museum's foundation is the Salzburg-Tyrolean Obernau farmhouse, first mentioned in records in 1380.

In addition to the main building, the grounds include an outdoor area featuring a display garden, a traditional wash house, a chapel, a baking oven, and an old apiary. The former cowshed houses exhibits such as sledges, carts, and ploughs, illustrating the tools once used for fieldwork and forestry.

Willi Gianmoena, a passionate farmer and chairman of the 'Tiroler Bauernhausmuseum Hinterobernau' association since 2008, leads efforts with his team to preserve the museum and its artifacts, ensuring public accessibility. He highlights how multiple generations lived under one roof, with the farmhouse serving as home, workshop, and community hub.

The museum association, founded in 1971, uses membership fees to maintain the museum and restore items. It currently has around 120 members. Initially conceived as a district-wide project, exhibits were gathered from various neighboring communities, contributing to the collection's diverse and unique nature.
