Kitzbühel's The Londoner Pub Celebrates 50 Years

The Londoner pub in Kitzbühel is celebrating 50 years as a fixture of the town's nightlife. Founded in 1976 by Rik Gunnell, who brought a piece of British pub culture to the Austrian Alps, the establishment has evolved into more than just a bar.

Originally conceived as a place open to everyone, The Londoner has grown into an institution and a meeting point for locals, visitors, and winter sports enthusiasts. It has become a second home for many, serving as a venue for celebration and social interaction.

In March 2020, the pub was taken over by David Jamieson, a former pilot who settled in Kitzbühel. Jamieson manages the bar with respect for its history, continuing its tradition of openness. "Everyone is welcome here. It doesn’t matter whether someone orders a beer or champagne – everyone stands side by side at the bar," Jamieson stated.

The Londoner also maintains close ties to the skiing community and hosts events relevant to winter sports. Its musical heritage, featuring sing-alongs and live bands, is a significant part of its identity. Jamieson aims to preserve the pub's familiar atmosphere while allowing for careful development.

Jamieson expressed his commitment to maintaining The Londoner's essence, ensuring it remains a central meeting place and a cherished part of Kitzbühel's social fabric for years to come.
