KKR Backs BookMyShow as Live Entertainment Becomes Growth Engine

Indian live entertainment platform BookMyShow has received a substantial external investment from global investment firm KKR. While financial details were not disclosed, reports suggest KKR acquired a minority stake for approximately $40-50 million. This marks BookMyShow's first external funding round in seven years, with estimates placing its pre-money valuation around $750 million and post-money valuation at roughly $850 million.

The investment coincides with a strategic shift, as BookMyShow's live events business is experiencing faster growth than its traditional online ticketing operations. The company has significantly invested in production and promotion capabilities, including major international artists and festivals. "The opportunity is not simply to expand the number of events we do, but to build the depth and scale of the ecosystem that allows India’s live entertainment market to grow sustainably," stated Naman Pugalia, CBO of BookMyShow's live events business.

BookMyShow's revenue from live events has seen substantial growth, reportedly increasing 30-fold over three fiscal years to reach ₹756 billion in FY25. While online ticketing remains its largest revenue stream, live events represent a rapidly expanding segment. The company is also leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize its operations, including identifying bottlenecks during events.

This focus on live entertainment signifies a major evolution for the company. BookMyShow is moving beyond ticketing to increasingly engage in event production, promotion, and IP creation, exemplified by its involvement with Lollapalooza India. While this requires greater upfront investment compared to pure ticketing, scale and recurring events are seen to improve long-term profitability. The company continues to enhance its core movie ticketing business through personalized content and loyalty programs.
