Klook CEO on scaling through shocks, not building 'cool' features

Klook CEO Ethan Lin highlighted the company's growth strategy, emphasizing resilience and its ability to navigate industry shocks. Lin, who co-founded the travel experiences platform in Hong Kong in 2014, stressed that the firm's success is built on operational stability rather than fleeting trends.

The company, which has since become one of Asia's largest travel platforms and achieved unicorn status in 2018, has expanded internationally. Klook offers over 500,000 experiences globally and has facilitated more than 140 million trips. It announced profitability for the first time in 2023 and had been preparing for a New York Stock Exchange listing, though the timing has been delayed.

Lin's inspiration for Klook came from a 2013 trip to Nepal, where he encountered difficulties finding and booking local activities reliably. This experience motivated him and the other co-founders to create a platform that simplifies the discovery and booking of travel experiences.

Klook's growth is also supported by a global network of over 30,000 content creators. The company's strategy prioritizes scaling operations and ensuring stability in challenging market conditions over solely focusing on developing new, "cool" features.

Looking ahead, Klook plans to continue its expansion and strengthen its position as a global provider of travel experiences, focusing on sustained growth and enhancing the customer journey across all circumstances.
