Canadian pharmaceutical company Knight Therapeutics has signed an agreement with US-based Jaguar Health, granting it the exclusive rights to commercialize Mytesi® (crofelemer) in Canada and Israel. Mytesi is an FDA-approved product in the U.S. for the symptomatic relief of noninfectious diarrhea in adult patients with HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy (ART).

The agreement designates Knight Therapeutics as responsible for all regulatory and commercial activities for Mytesi and related products in the licensed territories. Knight also holds a right of first negotiation to commercialize Mytesi in specified Latin American countries. Under the terms, Jaguar may receive aggregate payments from Knight of up to approximately USD $18 million over the initial 15-year term, contingent upon certain regulatory and sales milestones.

Jaguar Health is exploring additional indications for Mytesi, including cancer therapy-related diarrhea (CTD), rare pediatric diarrheal disorders, short bowel syndrome (SBS), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and supportive care for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

"Mytesi will strengthen Knight’s portfolio of GI products and will be an important treatment option for Canadian and Israeli patients, if approved in these markets," said Jonathan Ross Goodman, CEO of Knight Therapeutics. The company also expressed enthusiasm for supporting Jaguar's efforts to develop Mytesi for follow-on indications.
