Kobo e-readers face severe bugs after software update

E-reader manufacturer Kobo is experiencing severe problems with its latest 6.0 test software update. Following the update, numerous users have reported critical issues, including the inability to view their books, notes, and reading statistics. Additionally, devices have become slow and are experiencing synchronization errors.
The affected devices include the Kobo Libra Colour, Clara BW, and Clara Colour models that have updated to software versions 5.18.270971 or 6.0.274403. Kobo has acknowledged the bugs and confirmed that its engineering team is working on a fix. The company states that the data not currently displaying has not been deleted and is expected to be restored via a future software update.
User feedback indicates the problems extend beyond just missing data. Some users report significant interface lag and frequent "loading" messages. Lost Libby account logins and issues with sideloaded books and Libby synchronization have also been noted, suggesting a broader impact across multiple software functions.
Kobo has issued a strong warning against attempting to downgrade the software. The company advises against reinstalling or rolling back to older firmware, as this could lead to permanent deletion of the currently inaccessible data.
