Koite Health Study Shows Sustained Antibacterial Effect of Dual Light PDT on Biofilm

Researchers at Koite Health have published findings on the sustained antibacterial effect of their Dual Light Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) on Streptococcus mutans biofilm. The study compared this method to single-wavelength treatments.

The research, published in PLOS ONE, found that repeated use of single-wavelength blue light (aBL) or PDT led to significant adaptation and increased viability in S. mutans biofilm. In contrast, the dual light approach, which combines aBL and PDT, effectively arrested this adaptation.

This dual-light method provided significantly improved and sustained antibacterial efficacy. The findings suggest that the combined approach prevents bacterial adaptation, offering a more robust solution for managing bacterial biofilms in oral health.

The study highlights the potential of dual light therapy as a method for enhanced and long-lasting bacterial control, addressing limitations observed with conventional single-wavelength photodynamic therapies.
