Kolaka Nickel Develops 20 MW Solar-Plus-Storage for Indonesia's Nickel Industry

PT. Kolaka Nickel Indonesia is advancing the greening of Indonesia's nickel industry with a hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Southeast Sulawesi.

The facility, located in Oko Oko, Pomalaa, Kolaka Regency, combines a 20 MWp solar array with a 20 MW / 30 MWh energy storage system. This represents a significant corporate investment in clean, self-generated power for industrial operations.

Financing for the project was secured in January 2026 through non-recourse financing from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Indonesia) Limited, Standard Chartered Bank Indonesia, and China CITIC Bank International Limited. The EPC contractor, EDRI, will manage the design, procurement, and construction.

High-efficiency solar modules from ZNSHINE SOLAR form the core of the plant's generation capability, chosen for their durability and performance in Indonesia's tropical climate.

Scheduled for commissioning in March 2027, the facility will deliver significant decarbonization benefits for local nickel sector operations, demonstrating how strategic collaboration can advance both environmental stewardship and industrial competitiveness.
