Kraken Robotics Acquires Covelya Group to Expand Subsea Technology Offerings

Kraken Robotics Inc. has expanded its subsea technology offerings with the acquisition of Covelya Group. This strategic move strengthens the company's position in the underwater systems, offshore energy, and defense sectors.
The acquisition integrates Covelya's expertise in navigation, positioning, communication, and detection with Kraken's existing capabilities in 3D imaging, power solutions, and commercial services. Kraken Robotics President and CEO Greg Reid stated the combination brings together "some of the brightest engineering talent and domain expertise in the subsea sector," aiming to accelerate innovation and deliver greater customer value.
The combined portfolio spans the subsea lifecycle, from positioning and communication to high-resolution imaging and analysis. Demand for SeaPower subsea battery systems has particularly grown due to the increasing adoption of unmanned and autonomous systems in both defense and commercial markets.
Kraken is establishing a new subsea battery manufacturing facility in Nova Scotia to meet growing demand. Reid highlighted the dual-use nature of the technology, noting that systems developed for defense applications also serve commercial needs like offshore energy inspection. The company continues to invest in advanced sonar, subsea LiDAR, and autonomous systems.
