Kraken Robotics expands global subsea presence with Covelya acquisition

Kraken Robotics, a provider of marine technology, has transitioned from a specialized subsea mapping firm to a multi-national entity with approximately 1,200 employees across eight countries. This growth was significantly accelerated by the $615 million acquisition of the UK-based Covelya Group in July 2026, which brought brands including Sonardyne and EIVA under the Kraken umbrella.

The merger increases Kraken’s revenue guidance to between $290 million and $320 million for 2026. By integrating Covelya’s navigation, positioning, and environmental sensing capabilities with its own proprietary synthetic aperture sonar and SeaPower battery systems, Kraken now supplies an estimated 80 percent of mission systems found on various advanced autonomous underwater vehicles.

Simultaneously, the firm has expanded its domestic production capacity with a new facility in Halifax. Operational since early 2026, the plant focuses on manufacturing high-density SeaPower batteries and launch and recovery systems. President Bernard Mills stated that the facility is designed for scalability to meet rising global demand for subsea hardware.

As naval strategies shift toward the use of autonomous swarms rather than singular vessel operations, Kraken is focusing on the miniaturization of its navigation and sensor systems. These technologies are increasingly utilized for both military defense and the protection of critical civilian subsea infrastructure.
