Kraken Robotics Inc. announced the introduction of its SeaVision system through its German subsidiary, Kraken Robotik GmbH. The company describes SeaVision as the world's first full-color RGB underwater laser imaging system capable of delivering high-resolution, real-time 3D point cloud images with millimeter accuracy. The system is designed for deployment on Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

SeaVision aims to address the growing demand for accurate 3D reconstruction of subsea infrastructure, essential for commercial, military, and oceanographic research. While sonar is typically used for broad area mapping, Kraken's SeaVision system offers significantly higher resolution for inspection tasks within ranges of less than 10 meters.

The system utilizes six RGB laser lines to capture both visual and depth data, processing information onboard in real-time. It can generate over 300,000 colored points per second with a typical spatial accuracy of less than two millimeters. Kraken highlights its compact design with no external moving parts, allowing for simplified at-sea installation and auto-calibration.

Kraken anticipates that the SeaVision system, combined with its existing sonar and underwater robotics technology, will provide enhanced capabilities for subsea asset management. CEO Karl Kenny stated the technology is expected to enable autonomous, real-time 3D modeling and structural integrity assessment, potentially improving safety and operational efficiency for clients.
