ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND – Kraken Robotics Inc. announced that its Miniature Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar (MINSAS) system was utilized by five NATO navies during the Portuguese Navy's annual REPMUS exercise, held from September 9-27 in Sesimbra and Troia, Portugal. The exercise focused on robotic experimentation and prototyping with maritime unmanned systems.

During the event, five Kraken MINSAS modules were integrated into American, Dutch, Swedish, Belgian, and Portuguese unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). Collectively, these systems successfully identified over 50 mine-like targets throughout the exercise period, accounting for redundant coverage.

"REPMUS has been an invaluable experience for our team at Kraken, providing the opportunity to work directly with end-user navies, demonstrate the capabilities of MINSAS, support the rapid processing of data from multiple missions, and get real-time feedback from users that we can integrate into our product roadmap," said Greg Reid, President and CEO of Kraken Robotics.

The exercise highlighted the versatility of Kraken's technology, with MINSAS being integrated onto various UUV configurations, including legacy REMUS systems, the U.S. Navy’s MK-18 Mod 1, and a Gavia vehicle. Kraken's SAS technology also played a role in a multinational collaborative autonomy exercise focused on surveying mine-like objects in a complete 'Find-Fix-Finish' mission.

The 2024 REPMUS exercise involved over 30 nations, 2,000 participants, and 100 autonomous assets, aiming to foster collaborative development and testing of concepts and requirements for multi-domain operations.
