Kraken Robotics Inc. has introduced an Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD) processing software upgrade for its AquaPix imaging sonars, enhancing the detail and clarity of seabed mapping data. The company claims this advancement allows for a real-world resolution of 1.9 x 2.1 cm, an improvement from the previous 3.0 x 3.3 cm resolution.

The new software utilizes advanced image processing techniques to achieve higher pixel density and better seabed image quality. Kraken Robotics emphasizes that this resolution has been measured under actual operating conditions, a methodology developed internally and presented at an international ocean technology conference, distinguishing it from theoretical specifications.

This enhanced resolution is particularly significant for demanding subsea survey missions, including mine countermeasures, infrastructure monitoring, and oil and gas exploration. Improved image detail can increase the probability of detecting and classifying targets and aid in assessing the condition of underwater assets.

The Ultra HD software is now available for integration with various Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) platforms. Kraken Robotics focuses on developing and selling sensors, subsea batteries, thrusters, and underwater robotic systems for marine applications.
