Krug Collaborates with Composer Max Richter on Music Project

Champagne house Krug has released a new project, "Every Note Counts," in partnership with composer and pianist Max Richter. The collaboration aims to explore the relationship between taste and sound, drawing parallels between the precision in winemaking and musical composition.

The project was inspired by Krug's 2008 vintages, including Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 2008, Krug 2008, and Krug Grande Cuvée 164ème Édition. These three champagnes represent distinct expressions of that year's harvest.

Max Richter composed three original musical pieces—Clarity, Ensemble, and Sinfonia—inspired by the sensory profiles of the champagnes. The compositions translate the structure, tension, and generosity of the wines into music.

The collaboration involved exchanges between Krug's vineyards and Richter's studio in Oxfordshire. Both parties focused on shared values such as attention to detail, nature, and balance in their creative processes.

The "Every Note Counts" experience culminated in an event at London's Roundhouse, featuring champagne tasting, live music, and fine dining. A documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration.
