KTGY Designs Jordan Downs Redevelopment in Los Angeles

Architecture firm KTGY has designed the Kalmia Rose and Cypress View residential buildings, situated in Los Angeles' Jordan Downs area. The project aimed to transform the historic housing site into a safe and connected urban village. The new developments emphasize community and safety.

Originally constructed as wartime workforce housing and later repurposed for public housing, Jordan Downs faced disrepair by the turn of the century. In 2010, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) initiated a significant redevelopment plan.

As part of this plan, KTGY, in partnership with BRIDGE Housing, designed 167 units across two sites, Kalmia Rose and Cypress View. The design process incorporated community feedback, focusing on residents' needs and the site's history. The arrangement of buildings and common areas prioritized livability and security.

The design fosters visual connections between private balconies, shared amenities, and public park spaces. This creates a continuum from private to public, enhancing resident well-being and fostering a sense of community. The redevelopment also includes new retail spaces and recreational facilities.
