Kuaishou's AI unit Kling unveils new video model
Kuaishou Technology's AI video unit, Kling, has launched its Kling 4.0 model. The release comes ahead of a potential listing in Hong Kong amid competition in the Chinese AI video market.
Kling, an AI video unit of Kuaishou Technology, has unveiled its new Kling 4.0 model. The technology can generate video clips up to 30 seconds long. This launch precedes the company's potential initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong.
The Beijing-based unit stated that a lite version of the model is available to annual subscribers, with a full release planned for October. Kling is competing in the Chinese market against other AI video firms, including ByteDance, for users and revenue.
Reports from July indicated that Kling raised US$2.8 billion at a valuation of approximately US$18 billion. Kuaishou Technology maintains a majority stake in the AI unit. Kling's annualized revenue reportedly surpassed US$500 million as of March.
Operating within the AI video sector presents significant cost challenges, particularly related to graphics processing unit (GPU) inference. Industry analysis suggests that companies must manage these costs carefully, potentially by adjusting pricing, quality, or duration of generated content, or by securing more cost-effective computing power to maintain profitability.
