Kuehne+Nagel and CATL Partner on Battery Logistics and Electrification
Logistics firm Kuehne+Nagel and battery manufacturer CATL have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on battery logistics, transport electrification, and emissions reduction.
Logistics provider Kuehne+Nagel and battery manufacturer CATL have entered a strategic partnership focused on battery logistics, transport electrification, and reducing emissions across their value chains.
Initial projects will include electrifying CATL's transport flows in Europe. The companies are also preparing a pilot for battery swapping for heavy-duty trucks in China, utilizing Qiji technology, with the pilot set to launch in 2026.
Beyond vehicle electrification, the collaboration will explore battery recycling, aftersales support, and energy storage and charging solutions for logistics facilities. Kuehne+Nagel highlighted the role of battery-electric vehicles in decarbonizing road freight, while CATL emphasized the partnership's contribution to sustainability objectives.
The agreement comes amid rapid growth in electric mobility and energy storage. Demand for electric truck batteries increased by over 75% in 2024. The partnership aims to combine CATL's battery expertise with Kuehne+Nagel's logistics capabilities to develop practical, scalable solutions for lower-emission transport.
