KUKA deploys AI-powered automation platform in automotive manufacturing
KUKA has deployed its AI-powered Automation Management Platform (AMP) in a North American automotive production environment at its Toledo facility, marking the platform's first live use.

KUKA has deployed its Automation Management Platform (AMP), an AI-powered system, at its KUKA Toledo Production Operations (KTPO) facility in Ohio. This marks the platform's first live application within a North American automotive manufacturing setting.
The AMP platform is designed to connect existing automation infrastructure with AI technologies, initially focusing on autonomous mobile robots. Its purpose is to enable manufacturers to utilize factory data more effectively, enhance operational flexibility, reduce changeover times, and support more complex automated workflows. The Toledo facility produces over 300 vehicle bodies daily, utilizing 285 robots and more than 60,000 connected devices.
Marc Fleischmann, Chief Software and AI Officer at KUKA Group, stated that manufacturing is entering a new phase where traditional automation is being augmented by AI. "The future lies in combining the precision and reliability of proven industrial automation with the capabilities of AI-powered systems," he said. AMP provides a foundation for this evolution, aiming to facilitate "Physical AI" where machines and robots learn from data for real-time decision-making.
This deployment is part of KUKA's strategy to scale AI from pilot projects into real-world manufacturing. The KTPO facility, operational since 2006, produces body-in-white for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models, and serves as a key site for demonstrating enhanced automation capabilities in the significant U.S. market.
