Kymeta Begins Beta Trial for Next-Generation Mobile Satellite Terminal
Kymeta has launched a global beta program for its new u8 Ku-band satellite terminal and Kymeta Connect services, bringing the company closer to the product's planned market launch.

Kymeta, a satellite connectivity company, announced the commencement of its global beta trial program for the next generation u8 Ku-band terminal and Kymeta Connect services. The program involves select partners and customers worldwide, including defense contractors, satellite service providers, and commercial resellers. This initiative is a step towards the planned market launch of the Kymeta u8 in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The Kymeta u8 terminal features an electronically steered, flat-panel antenna redesigned for enhanced ease of use and performance. It supports global land mobility across the full Ku-band with improved efficiency. The terminal is designed with a low-profile form factor and native DC power input for straightforward integration into mobile platforms. A key feature is the integrated satellite and cellular modems, enabling a multi-WAN configuration for seamless hybrid connectivity.
Alongside the terminal, Kymeta is also beta trialing Kymeta Connect, a suite of services designed to simplify connectivity management akin to purchasing a wireless plan. Together, the terminal and services aim to provide a turnkey solution for reliable, always-on mobile communications for sectors such as public safety, defense, and enterprise.
Kymeta previously conducted prototype trials, driving from Washington D.C. to Redmond, Washington. During these tests, the u8 terminal reportedly maintained 100% connectivity on the move, validating the hybrid satellite/cellular approach for continuous service. "We believe this is an industry game changer that will provide mobile connectivity in all parts of the world," stated David Harrower, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Kymeta.
