Kymeta Kestrel u5 Terminal Achieves Full Rail Certification Ahead of European Rollout

Redmond, WA – September 17, 2026 – Satellite terminal manufacturer Kymeta has announced that its Kestrel u5 satellite communications terminal has achieved full rail certification. This certification allows for the device's upcoming deployment to European rail operators, system integrators, and train manufacturers.

The certification, awarded by TÜV Rheinland, Europe's leading notified body for third-party validation in the rail industry, signifies a major approval for the Kymeta Kestrel u5. It will enable high-speed connectivity aboard trains for both passenger and freight operations. The equipment has demonstrated compliance with railway standards, including EN 50155, EN 45545-2, and EN 50121.

The certification highlights the Kestrel u5's design for demanding mobile environments. It is engineered to withstand harsh conditions such as vibration and moisture, featuring a high IP69K protection rating and optimized power consumption (under 100 W).

The lightweight and low-profile Kestrel u5 offers mobile satellite connectivity without moving parts. Its passive cooling system and shock-absorbent design ensure reliable performance even in challenging conditions. The hardware is also prepared for future satellite modem upgrades.

The terminal provides full-duplex connectivity (simultaneous transmission and reception) with low latency and high speeds. The Kestrel u5 supports switching between Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellites, offering a flexible and stable connection along the entire route.
