Kymeta Raises $85 Million in Funding to Accelerate Growth
Kymeta Corporation announced approximately $85 million in financing, led by Bill Gates. The funds will accelerate new product development and commercialization for satellite and cellular communications.

Redmond, Washington – Kymeta Corporation announced on August 25, 2020, that it has secured approximately $85 million in new financing. The round was led by Bill Gates, with the company's leadership team, including Executive Chairman Doug Hutcheson, personally investing approximately $1 million. The capital infusion is intended to accelerate Kymeta's growth and expand its global operations.
The company specializes in electronically steered flat panel antennas for satellite and cellular communications. The newly raised funds will be used to speed up the development and commercialization of new products, including its Kymeta Connect services and the new u8 terminal. These technologies are designed to provide continuous connectivity solutions for mobile applications, targeting sectors such as defense, first responders, and commercial enterprises.
This financing follows a period of significant growth for Kymeta over the past 18 months. During this time, the company has acquired new customers, appointed key executives, and launched new products. Kymeta's reseller network has expanded to include over one hundred partners worldwide. The company emphasizes the potential of hybrid connectivity and aims to promote the use of affordable, electronically steered antennas globally.
"We are just scratching the surface of how powerful hybrid satellite-cellular communications can be when combined with an affordable electronically steered flat panel antenna for the global land mobility ecosystem," said Doug Hutcheson, Executive Chairman, Kymeta. "Bill Gates' continued support will help us execute our vision more rapidly and broadly."
Kymeta Corporation's latest u8 terminal, paired with Kymeta Connect services, offers a subscription-based package that includes hardware, connectivity, and service. Earlier in August, the company also announced its acquisition of Lepton Global Solutions and the launch of a beta testing program for the u8 terminal.
