Kymeta Selected for U.S. Army NGC2 Satellite Communications Pilot

Kymeta Corporation will supply its Osprey u8 satellite terminals for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) pilot program. The initiative aims to test and integrate commercial satellite communication technologies to enhance the mobility and operational resilience of U.S. forces.

The Osprey u8 terminal supports multi-orbit connectivity, allowing for integration with both geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. By utilizing a modular, cartridge-based system, the terminal is designed to maintain operational continuity across various data pathways, which is critical for maintaining communications in contested or degraded environments.

Technically, the terminal utilizes metamaterials-based architecture, which Kymeta reports reduces power consumption and thermal signature compared to traditional satellite hardware. These features are intended to minimize the risk of detection in hostile environments, addressing a key requirement for mobile and over-the-horizon operations.

Tom Jackson, Executive Vice President at Kymeta, stated that the company's proprietary approach to hardware provides performance advantages over existing market solutions. The selection of Kymeta aligns with the broader U.S. Department of Defense strategy of incorporating commercially developed technologies into military command structures to maintain a strategic edge.
