Lantmännen convenes leaders to discuss energy policy

Lantmännen brought together business and political leaders on September 3 at its Norrköping biorefinery to discuss energy conditions and the transition away from fossil fuels. Participants included Johan Mörnstam, CEO of E.ON Sweden, and Olle Vikmång (S), Chair of the Municipal Executive Board of Norrköping.

The discussions focused on the necessary framework for companies to continue developing operations and advancing their energy transition. Lantmännen emphasized the need for clear and long-term energy policies at both national and local levels to support this shift.

During the event, Lantmännen showcased its Norrköping operations and future development plans. The company highlighted the ongoing energy cooperation with E.ON at the Händelö facility, where E.ON's combined heat and power plant supplies steam to Lantmännen's production processes, illustrating industrial symbiosis.

The Norrköping biorefinery, established in 2001, is the largest ethanol producer in the Nordic region, with an annual capacity of approximately 230,000 cubic meters. Lantmännen states its ethanol has an over 95 percent lower climate impact than fossil fuels. The company also inaugurated a new wheat protein production facility in Norrköping in 2023.
