Lantmännen's Lidköping Investment Reaches Halfway Point
Construction of Lantmännen's new pea protein facility in Lidköping has reached its halfway mark. The SEK 1.2 billion investment is progressing as planned, with production set to begin in the first half of 2027.
Lantmännen's construction of a new pea protein facility in Lidköping has reached the halfway point. The SEK 1.2 billion investment is proceeding according to plan, with production scheduled to commence in the first half of 2027.
External construction of the buildings is largely complete, and work is now focused inside on the installation and assembly of process equipment. The facility is designed to receive approximately 40,000 tonnes of peas and faba beans annually, processing them into around 7,000 tonnes of protein isolate for the food industry.
This investment is part of Lantmännen's broader strategy to enhance Sweden's food security by increasing domestic food production and processing. The project is also expected to encourage Swedish farmers to increase cultivation of peas and faba beans, as these legumes improve soil health and reduce the need for mineral fertilizers.
The facility incorporates treatment and reuse of process water, alongside the utilization of side streams. The project has received support from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's Klimatklivet program.
