Lantmännen's SEK 1.2 Billion Lidköping Plant Construction Halway Done
Construction of Lantmännen's new pea protein facility in Lidköping, Sweden, has reached its halfway point. The SEK 1.2 billion investment is progressing as planned, with production scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.

Lantmännen's major investment in a new pea and faba bean protein facility in Lidköping, Sweden, has reached the midpoint of its construction phase. The project, valued at SEK 1.2 billion (approximately EUR 100 million), is proceeding according to schedule, with the plant expected to commence operations in the first half of 2027.
The facility is designed to process approximately 40,000 tonnes of peas and faba beans annually, yielding around 7,000 tonnes of protein isolate for the food industry. External construction is largely complete, with internal work now focusing on the installation of process equipment. The investment is anticipated to encourage more farmers to cultivate legumes, complementing traditional crops.
Sustainability is a core component of the project. Legumes naturally fix nitrogen in the soil, reducing the need for mineral fertilizers. The facility will also incorporate systems for treating and reusing process water, along with utilizing by-products. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket) has provided support through its Klimatklivet program.
This development is part of Lantmännen's broader strategy to bolster Sweden's food security by increasing domestic food production and processing capabilities. A recent information meeting at the construction site was attended by local officials, including representatives from Lidköping Municipality's business development department.
