Latin America emerges as key driver of Americas tourism growth
A joint report by Amadeus and UN Tourism identifies Latin America as a key growth driver for tourism in the Americas. Air traffic saw significant increases in South and Central America.

Latin America is emerging as a significant driver of tourism growth in the Americas, according to the "Travel Insights 2025: Focus on the Americas" report, a collaboration between Amadeus and UN Tourism. The report indicates a 1.8% year-on-year increase in air traffic across the region between July 2024 and June 2025. South America (+6%) and Central America (+4%) led the expansion in air capacity.
In 2024, the Americas welcomed 217 million international arrivals, generating approximately USD 451 billion in export revenues from international tourism. This highlights the vital role of the tourism sector in Latin American economies, particularly for smaller and island destinations.
Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia were identified as leading origin markets for travel to the Americas. The report also notes a surge in interest from Asian markets towards Latin America, with significant growth in searches from China and Japan. Paraguay and Puerto Rico showed the highest growth in bookings among Latin American destinations.
Hotel occupancy remained strong in Latin America during the first half of 2025. Mexico and Colombia offered competitive average daily rates (ADR), appealing to value-conscious travelers. Amadeus and UN Tourism reaffirm their commitment to supporting the region's tourism sector with actionable insights and strategic guidance for sustainable development.
