Law Firm Investigates Peabody Energy for Alleged Securities Law Violations

Law firm Hagens Berman has launched an investigation into Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE: BTU) for alleged violations of U.S. federal securities laws. The inquiry stems from a recently filed class action lawsuit, which accuses Peabody of misleading investors about the operational status and production capabilities of its Centurion metallurgical coal mine in Queensland, Australia.

The class action complaint alleges that Peabody and its management made materially false and misleading statements concerning the Centurion mine's true state and its readiness for full-scale production. The suit claims the company repeatedly assured investors that development was on track, citing in February 2026 that the final shield was installed and mining of premium metallurgical coal had commenced.

Plaintiffs contend these statements were false due to alleged mechanical, electrical, and operational issues severely impairing the mine's ramp-up. The complaint asserts that Peabody's management knew or recklessly disregarded these problems while maintaining positive production and financial guidance.

The truth reportedly emerged through disclosures that impacted share prices. On March 30, 2026, Peabody filed a report with the SEC, significantly slashing its first-quarter production guidance for Centurion. On May 5, 2026, the company disclosed further setbacks, lowering its full-year sales outlook for the mine.

Hagens Berman's investigation aims to determine when Peabody Energy's management became aware that the production ramp-up at the Centurion mine was faltering. Investors who purchased Peabody Energy common stock during the specified class period are encouraged to contact the firm. The deadline to report potential losses is August 24, 2026.
