Law Firm Investigates Unum Group Following Q3 Loss and SEC Disclosure
Levi & Korsinsky is investigating potential securities law violations at Unum Group after a significant Q3 loss and disclosure of an SEC comment-letter process.

Levi & Korsinsky, LLP has launched an investigation into Unum Group (NYSE: UNM) following the company's third-quarter 2026 earnings report, which detailed a $419.7 million net loss. The report, filed on November 3, 2026, also disclosed that the insurer is currently undergoing an SEC comment-letter process regarding its financial disclosures.
The investigation centers on whether the company provided materially false or misleading information to shareholders concerning its reserves and associated reporting methodologies. During the quarter, Unum Group implemented a change in its reserve methodology, which resulted in a $53.2 million after-tax reduction in reserves. This follows a major July 2026 reinsurance transaction involving $5.7 billion in assets, which covered a significant portion of the company’s multi-billion dollar long-term care insurance blocks.
Following the release of the quarterly results, Unum Group shares experienced a decline. The legal firm is currently seeking to represent investors who sustained losses, evaluating whether the company’s disclosures surrounding its reserve accounting met regulatory requirements. The firm notes that affected shareholders may be eligible for recovery regardless of whether they currently hold the stock.
