A new benchmark report by Centerbase, titled "Beyond the Billable Hour: The Financial Visibility Gap," indicates that a significant majority of midsize law firms are making critical strategic decisions based on delayed, fragmented, and outdated financial data. The research found that 82% of firm leaders stated that quicker access to financial information would sharpen their decisions regarding pricing, staffing, and investment.

Despite this expressed need, 77% of respondents reported that their financial data is spread across disconnected systems. Furthermore, 58% suspect their realization rates are lower than they should be, highlighting potential inefficiencies in revenue capture and management.

Trish Stromberg, Chief Marketing Officer at Centerbase, commented that while firms are focused on client work, many lack a clear view of their own business performance. She noted that inaccurate figures and the time-consuming manual assembly of data lead to frustration and potential revenue leakage, emphasizing the need for better visibility to build modern, profitable firms.

The report, based on a survey of 151 midsize law firm leaders conducted by Trend Candy in Q3 2026, explores areas where revenue is lost and how AI can be leveraged in financial operations. Firms that gain real-time financial insights are positioned to make more informed decisions, creating a competitive advantage.
