Lawsuit Filed Against Apple Over AirTag Design Enabling Covert Tracking

Apple Inc. has been sued by a Louisiana woman who claims an AirTag tracking device was used to secretly monitor her movements for approximately two weeks. The lawsuit, filed by Bradley/Grombacher LLP in California, alleges negligence, strict liability for design defect, and failure to warn.

The complaint asserts that Apple designed, manufactured, and sold AirTags despite knowing that stalkers could use the devices for secret monitoring. The lawsuit further alleges that Apple was aware of the risks of stalking and domestic violence associated with AirTags before their launch. The plaintiff, an Android phone user, received an alert about an unknown AirTag traveling with her, which was later discovered concealed in her truck.

According to the law firm, Apple should have implemented stronger safeguards for the tracking device. "A company cannot focus only on what a product can do for its customers. It also must confront the foreseeable ways that people can use that product to harm others," said attorney Kiley Grombacher. The suit claims Apple introduced incremental changes only after reports of AirTag stalking proliferated.

The woman reports experiencing persistent fear and anxiety, uncertain if she is still being tracked or may be targeted again. She is seeking damages for expenses related to security applications, vehicle inspections, and lost wages.
