LBV joins BIOTOPIA museum's Dawn Chorus project

The Bavarian Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV) has officially joined forces with BIOTOPIA – Naturkundemuseum Bayern as a project partner for the "Dawn Chorus" initiative. This citizen science and art project aims to collect data on early morning bird songs to document soundscapes and advance biodiversity research.

Initially launched in spring 2020, "Dawn Chorus" encourages people to pause and listen to nature. The project seeks to raise awareness about local wildlife and the ongoing biodiversity crisis. The collected audio recordings contribute to an acoustic monitoring system for bird diversity.

"We are pleased to support BIOTOPIA's 'Dawn Chorus' project. A central concern for LBV is to increase public knowledge and awareness of bird species and their calls in Bavaria," stated Dr. Norbert Schäffer, LBV's chairman. "The project's scientific foundation and straightforward participation align perfectly with LBV's principles as a 'conservation organization for citizens'."

Through this collaboration, BIOTOPIA and LBV aim to foster greater interest in biodiversity. Birds serve as crucial indicators of environmental changes in various habitats. Using the "Dawn Chorus" app, individuals can contribute to protecting endangered ecosystems and deepen their understanding of local species. The main data collection period is in May, with ambitions to expand the project's reach within Bavaria and globally.
