Lear Capital Fraud Alert Leads to Arrest in Multi-State Identity Theft Case
A Lear Capital employee's report of suspicious transactions helped police uncover a multi-state identity theft operation, leading to an arrest. The company's vigilance played a key role in disrupting the scheme.

Los Angeles, CA – A report of suspicious account activity from an employee at precious metals dealer Lear Capital led to the arrest of an Antioch, California man and the disruption of a multi-state identity theft operation, according to the Antioch Police Department.
The employee flagged potential fraud on July 21, 2026, prompting an investigation by Detective Ryan Duff. The investigation linked the transactions to victims across several states, with total losses amounting to nearly $30,000.
Following a search warrant, police recovered stolen property, including gold, equipment for creating fraudulent financial instruments, stolen personal information, and firearms. The arrested man faces felony charges of identity theft and grand theft.
The Antioch Police Department credited the company's employee for their alertness. Lear Capital CEO John Ohanesian highlighted the company's training protocols for identifying and reporting suspicious activity. This incident follows a similar case in July 2024 where Lear Capital assisted the FBI and Oregon police in disrupting a nationwide gold bar scam.
